Three poems by Felino Soriano

Approbations 609
—after Ben Allison’s Respiration

At rest
much
of the waking moments provide
awakening gatherings of violet burnt orange
an autumnal avalanche
of glass’
responsories tissue thin physicality, this
brand of motional outbursts
ambulatory heaves of wind’s
breathy mathematics
catches maze of web’s
noon warmth (causational embrace, emphatic)
and thus
believes in the vibratory existence
heaving mood and deliberate evidential series
collaborates as now’s version of elite
understanding.

Approbations 610
—after Rudresh Mahanthappa’s Introspection

Cleaved to the spiritual
mannerisms
predicated psyche architects

flexed
into
versions of the mind’s valiant forms of opened
collocation:

alone | together

with the self’s primal
hankering to understand
portended
shapes of questioning vernacular
holding and
bent
and
interpreted as whole
and held
beneath reflection’s guise of
delving into skeletal depth
of the mind’s anecdotal freedom.

Approbations 611
—after McCoy Tyner’s Search for Peace

Beneath disparate cultivations

the cold
sword-edge metallic spine of a rock’s
numeric otherness
can then peace remain
though forgotten the body-rock’s needs to
socially associate with human hand
prior
to the heave of wish-making
fashion
generating
absence though hope was the curved fathom
relying on return to
open wound of catastrophe’s
ire
hoping
for heal, such innate
multilayered heal.
