except for screams by Wanda Morrow Clevenger

a few times
silverfish
appeared
in the bathtub

returned to
the Devonian
                 between
Kleenex
fingers

spiders
4 and 5 inch
huge hairy
lurched

crept from
hellish crypts
fed on
silverfish
as they
neared
the light

bashed with shoe
hairbrush whatever
annihilation
was at hand

mice ran
straight up
drapes
across the
rod across
counter tops

their necks
snapped
4 and 5 in
the night

water bugs
clocked 210 mph
made inverted
midnight maneuvers
petered out
dropped cold
on asleep cheeks

except for
screams
I kept my mouth
closed
