Three poems by David McLean

just some hunger

they live just some hunger
with insatiable indifference,
not even real evil,

an absent man leaving a bar
brushing against a child
and touching her

with such a terrible
forgetfulness, love and cold conscience,
the faintest trace of death

====================

gray skin

twilight is voracious gray skin
and esurient silence listening
to all the slender absences,

to these useless interstices
every body calls its “me”
i have fists and do not dream,

i have teeth and gray skin
to be. i have absences,
no trace of any need

stealing bones

you steal my bones from the graveyard
that is the flesh, here where a solitary god
sits being a self and a memory,

pieces of meat and dreams
instead of bread and butter,
love on this stained carpet

where corpses walked once.
you steal my bones from the flesh
to render down to dust and drugs,

a solitary god, meaty as any love
